I would consider this book right on the line of acceptable smirkiness. Halfway through the book, though he continued to use that trope, he redeemed himself with great passionate sex scenes. I know I will check out the next book, but not sure if I will dive into it! Johanna Fairview delivered a great performance, and nailed the accents flawlessly. I'm still on the fence about continuing the series. Because of the overall plot, characters and world-building, I am giving the story an overall four stars. Yuck! Overall, this was a fairly intense plot, and the darker vampire world-building was well developed. Now, I'm just going to have to listen to something cute and fuzzy to get the image out my mind. Personally, if one of the scenes had been cut (towards the end), I would have enjoyed the entire story. Nightlife is not for the faint of heart, and there are a few disturbing scenes so be warned.
